evolution of Design Culture at Nasdaq
Design | Research | Strategy
Our team scaled from 1 designer in 2011 to 25 including generalists who design and code prototypes along with dedicated customer
researchers. The growth required establishing new roles, including a Director of Customer Insights, Director of Research, Creative Director, and multiple Design Leads overseeing small tactical teams of designers.
Like many large organizations, Nasdaq needed to radically change the way it approached design. By committing to a deeper understanding of customer needs and hiring generalist designers who understand code and visual design, we have fundamentally transformed the way we generate ideas, iterate and refine design concepts, and bring validated hypotheses to market.
Starting with the IR Insight product conception, Nasdaq product design embraced a culture where innovative concepts evolve and thrive. Previously siloed teams have been connected, cross-team communication was central to our work, and other teams within Nasdaq looked to our team to help guide research and design processes across the business.
